2 Female Farmers Shot Dead in Kogi

Two women have been reportedly shot dead on their farm in Okete village in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi state.

Reports from the area said the incident took place on Wednesday when the two women, with one of them identified as Ileyi, were on their farm tending to their crops.

Their assailants were said to have rained bullets on them over undisclosed reasons and zoomed off to an unknown destination.

“We are in mourning since we learnt of the attack on our daughters on the farm.

“They went to their farm to tend to their crops on Wednesday and unfortunately an altercation ensued and the assailants, suspected to be herders, shot them to death.

“We thought we would pick them alive when the news came to the community in the afternoon of Wednesday, but we saw their corpses with bullets and burns all over their bodies.

“After shooting them, they set them on fire to quicken their death. We are yet to establish the offences that made them deserve this kind of treatment from the herders on their own farm,” said a community leader, Akowe Ajofe Our correspondent learnt that the deceased had been buried.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP William Aya, did not respond to text messages and calls put across to him on the incident.
