Kogi Community Hails Appointment of Kinsman as Vice-Chancellor, Baze University

The Ogidi-Ijumu community in Kogi State has commended the appointment of Professor Abiodun Adeniyi as the new Vice Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja.

The Kogi community gave the commendation when the leadership of the Ogidi Day Festival led by the Director-General, Mr. Tunde Ipinmisho paid a congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor.

The delegation described the appointment as a moment of pride and honour for them, having their kinsman in the position as a historic achievement.

The delegation said it was sent by the Ologidi of Ogidi, Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, and the entire community to express joy and solidarity with the academic, who they noted is the first Vice Chancellor to emerge from Ogidi.

Speaking during the visit, members of the delegation urged Professor Adeniyi not to forget his origin and appealed to him to support the development of the community through meaningful projects that will benefit residents and younger generations.

Responding, Professor Adeniyi thanked the delegation for the gesture and assured them of his commitment to giving back to the community.

He disclosed plans to consider a modest but impactful project, including the possibility of establishing a community centre in memory of his late parents.

The community also offered prayers for wisdom and success for him, expressing confidence that his leadership will bring honour to Ogidi-Ijumu and inspire young people to pursue excellence.

The appointment of Professor Adeniyi by the the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founder of the University, Datti Baba-Ahmed, took effect on May 6, 2026.

Mr Adeniyi, a distinguished scholar of Communication and Media Epistemology, steps into the role after serving as Registrar of the University.
