The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has announced the disqualification of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and six other political parties from participating in the October 2026 local government elections in the state.
KOSIEC Chairman, Mamman Nda Eri, disclosed this at a press conference in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Eri noted that only 12 out of 19 registered political parties will participate in the October election.
The affected parties amongst which are African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) failed to meet key requirements, including proper documentation, registration compliance, and adherence to stipulated guidelines within the timeframe set by KOSIEC. As a result, they were disqualified from taking part in the forthcoming council polls.
Eri explained that the decision was reached after a thorough review of submissions made by political parties in line with the Kogi State Electoral Law, relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution, and applicable court rulings.
