In the bid to enhance security in Kogi, the state government has commenced building a new police barrack in Okene, and a 100-hectare perimeter fence for Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara.
The sites have been handed over to contractors, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye disclosed on Friday.
The Commission pointed out that the projects were being executed to enhance security in the state, following the abduction of CUSTECH students on May 9, 2024.
He praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s swift response to the incident and his commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens, adding that the perimeter fencing project is expected to be completed within 6-9 months.
Hon. Abanika Taiye also commended Governor Ododo’s efforts to make Kogi State safe for its citizens through the construction of the Police Barracks in Okene, the hub of economic and socio-political activities in Kogi Central.
The state consultant, Engr. Suleiman Kabiru, explained that the perimeter fencing will include facilities that will ensure a perfect security architecture for the university, commending the Governor for his proactive approach to security.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdulrahaman Salawu, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for his prompt response to the security concerns.
The contractors, RSA Global Investment Limited and MUSALIB INVESTMENT LIMITED, assured that they would complete the projects within the stipulated time frame.
