Kogi First Lady to Construct Rehabilitation Centre

Kogi First Lady Sefinat Usman Ododo

The wife of Kogi State Governor, Safinat Ododo has disclosed plans to construct a rehabilitation facility for drug addicts and users in the state.

The Special Adviser to the First Lady on drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Eunice Achimugu, disclosed this on Wednesday, highlighting the consequences of abnormal drug use behavior amongst the youths.

According to Ms. Achimugu, the governor’s wife also pledged to construct a center for skill acquisition where young people, including drug addicts undergoing treatment, may receive training in a variety of socially beneficial professions.

She clarified that the actions taken were a part of the state government’s cooperation in the fight against illicit drug misuse and trafficking with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Kogi State command.

“It’ll be wrong if we just sit and watch our youths being destroyed by illicit drugs. The youth are the leaders of tomorrow and must be protected. Drastic measures have to be taken to save our youths, who are ignorant of the inherent dangers of those illicit drugs,” she said.

The special adviser stated that educating adolescents about the risks associated with illegal drugs through video clips and school visits was a component of the strategy to combat drug usage.

To combat the threat and save the youth from oblivion, she states that the government will continue working with NDLEA.

“This is why we joined hands with NDLEA in celebration of the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking with the theme “Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crisis,” June 2024.”
