The youngest son of King Charles, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan are scheduled to be in Nigeria in May, 2024 on the invitation of the Nation’s Ministry of Defence.
Before heading to Nigeria, Harry would attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8 to celebrate the Invictus Games, the international sporting event that he founded for military personnel wounded in action.
Harry served as a military helicopter pilot in Afghanistan and Invictus organisers said the service was designed to mark “a decade of changing lives and saving lives through sport”.
The Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in a press statement has expressed its honour and delight for the acceptance of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to visit Nigeria.
The statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. General Tukur Gusau, noted that during their stay in the country, they will be meeting with Service members and will be hosted to arrays of cultural activities.
“The visit is to consolidate Nigeria strong hold at the game and the possibility of hosting the event later years. The Honourable Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru who was at Germany at last year’s event, has accepted to host the games when granted to Nigeria,” he said.
Prince Harry lives in the United States with Meghan and their two children after he gave up working as a member of the royal family in 2020.
He has only returned to Britain on a few occasions since his departure from royal life, arriving for major events such as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and his father’s coronation in May 2023.
