{"id":8818,"date":"2023-08-31T19:42:23","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T18:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=8818"},"modified":"2023-08-31T19:42:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T18:42:23","slug":"those-looting-our-state-will-be-brought-to-book-kogi-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/those-looting-our-state-will-be-brought-to-book-kogi-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"Those Looting Our State Will Be Brought to Book &#8211; Kogi Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kogi State House of Assembly has vowed to bring to book any individual looting the state\u2019s treasury.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Otokiti Alhassan Zakariya, disclosed this while briefing the assembly\u2019s press corps on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the Eighth Assembly is aware of some sharp practices being perpetuated by fraudulent individuals in the state, adding that anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.<\/p>\n<p>Zakariya, who is the current member representing the Okehi state constituency, noted that the assembly will continue to collaborate with other arms of government towards curbing corruption in Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining further, the first-time lawmaker said: \u201cLegislative business involves making laws and bringing up good motions and bills. In oversight function, all we are going to do is look into ministries and parastatals by constantly checking their account records to make sure things go well and to avert any form of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that wherever you are in a position where cash flows, there are bound to be sharp practices. We are going to do the needful through our oversight function by ensuring that all the account records of ministries are looked into without any sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to do it judiciously by not witch-hunting any individual, irrespective of their position in the state. We will be very clear and open.
