{"id":7898,"date":"2023-07-15T13:21:34","date_gmt":"2023-07-15T12:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=7898"},"modified":"2023-07-15T13:21:34","modified_gmt":"2023-07-15T12:21:34","slug":"president-tinubu-to-attend-au-meeting-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/president-tinubu-to-attend-au-meeting-in-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"President Tinubu to Attend AU Meeting in Kenya\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Bola Tinubu is to participate in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU) on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is contained in a statement by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, in Abuja on Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting will also be for the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member States.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the Chairperson of ECOWAS, Tinubu will join other Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers of the AU Member-States, and high-level dignitaries at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The President will also present a report on the status of regional integration in ECOWAS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He will highlight actions carried out during the period under review by ECOWAS institutions, member-states, the private sector, and other stakeholders to deepen integration through trade, free movement of persons, investment promotion, infrastructure development, peace, security and stability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 5th MYCM, which is convening under the AU\u2019s theme for 2023 \u201cAcceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation\u201d, will bring together the Bureau of the AU Assembly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bureau comprises the Heads of State and Government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, as well as the leaders of the eight RECs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These regional economic communities include ECOWAS chaired by Nigeria, the East African Community (EAC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Others are the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Community of Sahel\u2013Saharan States (CEN SAD), the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting will also involve the African Union Commission and the RMs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tinubu, who will be accompanied by senior government officials, is expected to return to the country at the end of the meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"President Bola Tinubu is to participate in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU)&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[742,2],"tags":[1880,682,818],"class_list":{"0":"post-7898","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-international","7":"category-news","8":"tag-au-meeting","9":"tag-bola-ahmed-tinubu","10":"tag-kenya"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.5 -
