{"id":6190,"date":"2023-04-04T16:10:07","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T15:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=6190"},"modified":"2023-04-04T16:10:07","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T15:10:07","slug":"inec-not-police-will-prosecute-adavi-local-govt-chairman-force-spokesman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/inec-not-police-will-prosecute-adavi-local-govt-chairman-force-spokesman\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC, Not Police, Will Prosecute Adavi Local Govt Chairman &#8211; Force Spokesman\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Nigeria Police Force has revealed that the policemen seen in a video with the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Joseph Omuya <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2023\/03\/23\/kogi-assembly-suspends-9-members-7-council-chairmen\/\">Salami<\/a> during the general elections in Kogi State, have been punished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The video which went viral, showed Mr. Salami in company of <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2023\/03\/20\/police-rescue-96-inec-officers-ad-hoc-staff-from-kidnappers-in-kogi\/\">Police<\/a> escorts destroying polling materials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), had also written to the police and the INEC to probe the video of Salami\u2019s activities on the election day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6191 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/images-68-300x180.jpeg\" alt=\"Adavi Chairman election \" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a tweet stated why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and not the police is saddled with prosecuting the council Chairman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Force spokesman, the policemen in the video have been dealt with, and assured all cases involving policemen across the country would be made public.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, &#8216;this kogi case is one of the cases that will be prosecuted by INEC, while the policemen in charge have been dealt with. I will compile all the cases involving policemen and share. Though many will still not believe us, we will be transparent and do the needful on these cases.
