{"id":611,"date":"2021-07-12T20:57:38","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T20:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=611"},"modified":"2023-08-12T12:47:46","modified_gmt":"2023-08-12T11:47:46","slug":"kogi-govt-replies-ohanaeze-ndigbo-says-nigeria-needs-a-new-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/kogi-govt-replies-ohanaeze-ndigbo-says-nigeria-needs-a-new-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Kogi Govt Replies Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Says Nigeria Needs a New Agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kogi State government, through the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, on Monday reacted to<a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2021\/07\/12\/presidency-you-were-in-school-when-north-south-agreed-on-rotation-ohanaeze-slams-kogi-g\"> Ohanaeze Ndigbo\u2019s comments that Governor Yahaya Bello was at the university when the issue of rotational presidency was agreed upon.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Bello had, during a maiden edition of the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2021\/07\/10\/rotational-presidency-is-unconstitutional-gov-yahaya-bello\">Governor Yahaya Bello seminar for political and crime correspondents\u2019 in Abuja on Friday, described rotational presidency as \u201cunconstitutional\u201d, adding that \u201cNigerians should be allowed to make their choices for the best candidates to emerge for the top posts.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was condemned by the Ibo apex sociocultural organisation through a statement.<\/p>\n<p>However, reacting to the Ohanaeze\u2019s statement, Fanwo said: \u201cWe have practiced rotation, but what have we to show for it as a nation? Who remembers where a good president comes from?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe South-East can bring forward their best to contest the election. What the nation needs now is the best for the job.<br \/>\n\u201cOur constitution doesn\u2019t respect rotational presidency. It was the convenience of the political class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor didn\u2019t dispute such unwritten agreement, but he is faulting it. We need a young, vibrant and pragmatic president come 2023. We need a man who will be at home with everyone from everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement made while he was in school over 20 years ago must not necessarily be in force forever, especially when it has not taken our nation to where we want to be as the true giant of Africa.<br \/>\n\u201cWe need a new one for a generation that wants to see Nigeria prosper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Yahaya Bello is working with an Anambra indigene as Director-General, Research and Development; a Borno indigene as his Special Adviser on Public Relations and a Lagos indigene as his Special Adviser on Legal Matters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria will never be great as long as we think our greatness is in the shell of ethnic competition.
