Two female candidates have been declared winners in the just-concluded House of Assembly election in Kogi State.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the two female candidates, Mrs Omotayo Adeleye-Ishaya and Mrs Comfort Nwuchola, won the Ijumu and Ibaji state constituency seats, respectively.<\/p>\n

Both Nwuchola and Adeleye-Ishaya are candidates of the All Progressives Congress and also the first females to represent their respective constituencies in the Kogi Assembly.<\/p>\n

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, the Ijumu Local Government Returning Officer, Mrs Grace Haruna, at the result collation centre in Iyara, said Omotayo Adeleye-Ishaya scored a total of 8,568 votes to win.<\/p>\n

The Returning Officer added that the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Alaga Tokunbo, polled 3,899 while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate got 2,648 votes.<\/p>\n

In Ibaji, Suleman Danubian, the INEC Returning Officer for the Local Government, announced that Mrs Comfort Nwuchola of the APC polled 7,718 votes to defeat the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peter Egwuda, who garnered 6,737 votes.<\/p>\n
