{"id":5897,"date":"2023-03-01T06:10:05","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T05:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=5897"},"modified":"2023-03-01T06:10:05","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T05:10:05","slug":"bola-tinubu-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/bola-tinubu-president\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC Declares Bola Tinubu Winner of 2023 Presidential Election\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">INEC chairman Yakubu Mahmood declared Tinubu the winner of the election and president-elect Wednesday morning at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A total of 18 presidential candidates contested the election held across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The election was postponed till Sunday in some polling units in different states due to violence, logistical problems, theft of BVAS and other issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After collation at state INEC collation centres, the election results were presented by state collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs) before the INEC chairman at the National Collation Centre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mahmood announced that Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election with the majority of votes cast in 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The APC candidate polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat fellow contenders \u2013 Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 6,984,520 votes, Labour Party\u2019s Peter Obi had 6,101,533 votes to come third and candidate of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso with 1,496,687 votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of the 36 states and FCT, Tinubu, Obi, and Atiku won 12 states each while Kwankwaso won only Kano State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 12 states won by Tinubu are Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Jigawa, Ondo, <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2023\/02\/28\/2023-election-tinubu-wins-in-kogi\/\">Kogi<\/a> and Niger State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku of the PDP won Taraba, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe and Katsina.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Obi won the following states; Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Delta, Edo, FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Lagos and Cross River.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his acceptance speech, Tinubu said, \u201cI am profoundly humbled to serve as the 16th President of our beloved country. This is a shining moment in the life of any man and an affirmation of our democratic existence. I take this opportunity to appeal to my fellow contestants to let us team up together. It is the only nation we have.
