{"id":5498,"date":"2023-01-04T07:34:29","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T06:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=5498"},"modified":"2023-01-04T07:34:29","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T06:34:29","slug":"15-killed-as-bus-crashes-into-petrol-tanker-in-kogi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/15-killed-as-bus-crashes-into-petrol-tanker-in-kogi\/","title":{"rendered":"15 Killed as Bus Crashes into Petrol Tanker in Kogi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Tuesday, confirmed 15 persons dead and five others injured in an auto crash that occurred in Kogi state.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to NAN, the crash followed a collision between a J-5 Boxer bus and a petrol tanker at Koton-Karfe, along the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stephen Dawulung, <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2022\/11\/21\/five-dead-four-injured-in-kogi-accident\/\">FRSC<\/a> sector commander in Kogi, who confirmed the incident, said that the injured persons were taken to Ideal Hospital at Koton-Karfe for medical attention.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dawulung said that the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja, the Kogi capital.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on the incident, the sector commander said the bus was driving against traffic and rammed into the petrol tanker.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe bus driver left his lane and was driving in the opposite direction on high speed, only to have a head-on collision with an oncoming petroleum tanker,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThank God the tanker, which was laden with petroleum product, did not go up in flames, which could have been more devastating and worrisome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe unfortunate thing is that the bus was conveying iron cramps with 17 passengers, 15 of who were terribly squeezed and choked to death during the collision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s sad the prevalent abuse of traffic rules and regulations by motorists and commuters.
