{"id":379,"date":"2021-06-22T07:40:55","date_gmt":"2021-06-22T07:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=379"},"modified":"2023-05-20T09:05:58","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T08:05:58","slug":"redraft-your-map-igala-can-never-be-part-of-biafra-icda-tackles-ipob","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/redraft-your-map-igala-can-never-be-part-of-biafra-icda-tackles-ipob\/","title":{"rendered":"Redraft Your Map, Igala Can Never Be Part of Biafra &#8211; ICDA Tackles IPOB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Igala Cultural Development Association <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2023\/05\/10\/kogi-governorship-igala-consensus\/\">(ICDA)<\/a> on Monday called on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to redraft the Biafra map and remove Igala ethnic group from it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Comrade Enemona Emmanuel Omattah who is the factional Chairman of ICDA incorporated trustees, told newsmen that including Igala nation in the map of Biafra was an error made by the secessionist group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Omattah who is a former State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) added that the age-long trade relations and intermarriage between Igbos and Igalas <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebirareporters.com\">is<\/a> not enough reason to deny his people their true ethnic identity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are not part of their agitation. IPOB and Biafra cannot annex Igala nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe calling on Igbo people to stop including Igala land in their map.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDuring the Nigerian Civil War, Emeka Ojukwu-led team bombed Igala land. Our land was actually attacked. The people that attacked us years ago cannot come around now and claim we are part of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are not part of Biafra. We will never be part of Biafra. Though we do business with them and even intermarry, that does not mean we are part of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe believe in the Nigeria Project. We believe in the leadership of Nigeria nation. We have our issues with the Nigeria nation but we are not antagonistic. We will address our issues at the appropriate time, not by carrying guns and fighting. We believe in the corporate existence of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is the position of Igala nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on the alleged leadership crisis in ICDA, Omattah said the sociocultural group is being repositioned to fulfil its mandate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe incorporated trustees of ICDA constituted a working committee and made me the leader of the group. The working committee was mandated to reposition ICDA, interface, consult and dialogue with other stakeholders of Igala nation, review the constitution and work modalities for election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are working to get the 21 old Igala native districts involved in Igala business. ICDA is an umbrella covering all 21 Igala native districts, now in nine local government areas. Development associations of the district should be involved in ICDA activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFormer president, Sadiq Amodu Abubakar and his exco abandoned the aims and objectives of ICDA. Sadiq and his team failed to unite Igala people because of inexperience, greed and failure to accord recognition to the 21 native districts of Igala man.
