{"id":3615,"date":"2022-07-13T19:07:01","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T19:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=3615"},"modified":"2023-05-17T08:35:04","modified_gmt":"2023-05-17T07:35:04","slug":"kogi-man-jailed-10-years-for-robbery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/kogi-man-jailed-10-years-for-robbery\/","title":{"rendered":"Kogi Man Jailed 10 Years for Robbery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A High Court sitting in Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State has sentenced a 38-year-old man, Babatunde Adura, to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The convict was arraigned along with two others in 2020 for armed robbery and criminal conspiracy but the other two members escaped from the prison during the December 2021 Kabba jailbreak which occurred in December last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The court ruled on the sole defendant on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The trial judge of the court, Justice Abubakar Suleiman Ibrahim, found the convict guilty of the offence after the defendant confessed to the sale of items carted away during the robbery incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The robbery was carried out in August 2020 at Olukere-Amuro in Mopa-Moro LGA where the convict and others at large broke into many houses and dispossessed their victims of valuables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In addition to admitting to the offence, when his statement to the police was tendered as evidence, the convict\u2019s counsel, Segun Senibi, did not oppose same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The prosecuting counsel, J. J. Ifepariola, was also able to convince the court of his involvement in the crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Witnesses were called by the prosecutor while the defendant\u2019s evidence in his confessional statement pointed to the fact of Adura\u2019s culpability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">He and his co-conspirators were armed with a locally made pistol, which he confessed to having stolen, and committed the offence in the said area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Adura was found guilty, convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the offence of the robbery and six months for criminal conspiracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The sentences would run concurrently while no option of fine was given even as the convict was a first-time offender.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A High Court sitting in Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State has sentenced a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[78,2],"tags":[1575,1576,34],"class_list":{"0":"post-3615","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-crime","7":"category-news","8":"tag-babatunde-adura","9":"tag-isanlu","10":"tag-kogi"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.5 -
