{"id":2971,"date":"2022-04-23T11:39:41","date_gmt":"2022-04-23T11:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2022-04-23T11:50:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-23T11:50:03","slug":"kola-abiola-my-opinion-on-hafsat-comparing-my-father-to-yahaya-bello-not-for-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/kola-abiola-my-opinion-on-hafsat-comparing-my-father-to-yahaya-bello-not-for-public\/","title":{"rendered":"Kola Abiola: My Opinion on Hafsat Comparing My Father to Yahaya Bello Not for Public\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2972\" src=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Kola-ABiola-300x163.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"163\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Kola Abiola, son of the late MKO Abiola, says he will not react publicly to the recent comment by his sister comparing their father to Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Earlier in April, <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2022\/04\/02\/yahaya-bello-declares-for-president-in-elaborate-event-says-hell-make-20-million-nigerians-millionaires\/\">Bello declared his intention to run for president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and appointed Hafsat Abiola-Costello, one of Abiola\u2019s daughters, as the director-general of his presidential campaign organisation.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Kogi governor\u2019s campaign slogan is \u2018Hope 2023\u2019, which is similar to the slogan used by Abiola during the 1993 presidential election campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Speaking on her appointment, Hafsat had said she accepted it because the Kogi governor shares some qualities with that of her father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">But reacting to the development, <a href=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/2022\/04\/04\/video-leave-my-fathers-name-out-of-yahaya-bellos-campaign-tundun-abiola-blasts-sister-hafsat\/\">Tundun Abiola \u2014 another daughter of Abiola \u2014 said Hafsat does not have the right to \u201cexploit\u201d their father\u2019s name for Bello\u2019s benefit.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Speaking on Friday when he featured on \u2018One on One\u2019, a programme on ARISE TV, Kola said he would rather not speak on the matter in public, adding that he doesn\u2019t know the Kogi governor \u201cwell enough\u201d to comment on if he deserves the comparison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cMy late father, MKO, is a national brand that belongs to all Nigerians. We\u2019re the custodians of that brand and for me, as the head of the family, my response is a lot more mature. I\u2019d rather not discuss family issues publicly. That\u2019s my role. It\u2019s to protect that, and not just to protect that, but to protect what MKO himself stands for,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cSo, I won\u2019t comment publicly on that. If I have my comments, when I see Hafsat, I\u2019ll make them directly to her or any family member that wants my comments. But publicly, I\u2019d never do that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cThey\u2019ve come to me to ask and I\u2019ve told them what I think and that\u2019s it. It\u2019s family. I won\u2019t go public. I have to play the mature one here and that\u2019s always been my role even at my own expense, detriment, because that\u2019s the role I\u2019m meant to play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cI think I\u2019ve met Yahaya Bello one or twice. I don\u2019t know him to talk about him. I don\u2019t know him well enough. Also, he\u2019s a lot younger than I am anyway.
