{"id":2809,"date":"2022-04-07T18:41:17","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/?p=2809"},"modified":"2022-04-07T18:41:17","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:41:17","slug":"kogi-govt-places-one-week-ban-on-beef-after-mysterious-death-of-over-20-cattle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/kogi-govt-places-one-week-ban-on-beef-after-mysterious-death-of-over-20-cattle\/","title":{"rendered":"Kogi Govt Places One-Week Ban on Beef After \u2018Mysterious\u2019 Death Of Over 20 Cattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">No fewer than 20 cattle have mysteriously died in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">According to reports, the mysterious death of the cattle is suspected to be from alleged poisoning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2810\" src=\"https:\/\/ebirareporters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/FB_IMG_1649356687944-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has warned citizens to stay away from the consumption of beef in the next one week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">According to the State Director of Veterinary Services, Salau Mohammed Tarawa, the dead cattle were already taken to some markets for sale to unsuspecting citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The dead cattle were said to have been taken towards Osara, Ajaokuta, Obajana, Kotonkarfe and Kakanda areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">However, the state government said it had retrieved some of the dead cattle that were discovered in the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Tarawa further explained that the Ministry of Agriculture was collaborating with security agencies to invite the herders involved for questioning, saying appropriate action would be taken against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Also, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mallam Sani Abdulganiyu, appealed to the general public to cooperate with the ministry to address the situation without compromising their health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Head, Agro Rangers Unit Kogi State Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayode Emmanuel, said the cows were discovered by some officials of the Unit in Lokoja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cThe cattle emerged from the back of the State Secretariat complex where they had gone to graze. All of a sudden, they started behaving funny, slumped and died instantly within minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cUpon interrogation, the Fulani herder said he was coming out with them after grazing before the incident happened,\u201d he
