The Defence Headquarters, on Saturday night, honoured the late Abuh Ali, a lieutenant colonel, who died while fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the North-east on November 4, 2016, for gallantry and professionalism.<\/span><\/p>\n Ali was a prince to the people of Bassa nge in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the award of honour was received by Mr Ali\u2019s daughter, Fatima Abuh-Ali, supported by his widow, Samira Abuh-Ali, at Nigeria\u2019s 61st Independence Anniversary Dinner organised by Defence Headquarters in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n Mr Abuh-Ali was one of the 24 officers and soldiers comprising 12 officers and 12 soldiers who were honoured for gallantry and professionalism at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n The Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, who eulogised the late officer, said he represented gallantry, dedication and professionalism while commanding troops against terrorists in North-east.<\/span><\/p>\n Mr Irabor said members of the armed forces felt the need to share moments of joy and recognise some of its personnel who had distinguished themselves in battlefields.<\/span><\/p>\n He added that the event was also in the spirit of their adherence to military regimentation and a clear demonstration of reinvigoration for the operation and togetherness being experienced in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n The memory and sacrifices of our colleagues who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty \u2026 were not in vain and certainly will not be in vain, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAs we celebrate our independence anniversary today, the armed forces of Nigeria is proud of its role and effort in the Nigerian project.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIndeed, at no other time in our nation\u2019s history have members of the armed forces been so engaged as it relates to addressing the current myriad of security challenges in our dear country that threatened the very foundation of our unity, security and wellbeing.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cRising up to this challenge, the armed forces has made tremendous sacrifices in answering the clarion call.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe armed forces of Nigeria remains resolute and undaunted in the face of these challenges and we shall be victorious,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n Mr Irabor commended the spouses of officers and men as well the husbands of some of our female officers and soldiers who had dedicated their lives to the service of our nation.<\/span><\/p>\n He reiterated the commitment of the armed forces to continue to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria in line with its foreign policy objective.<\/span><\/p>\n The CDS said the military would continue to support democratic governance in the country, as well as ensuring the attainment of a more secure and prosperous Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n (NAN)<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Defence Headquarters, on Saturday night, honoured the late Abuh Ali, a lieutenant colonel, who died while fighting…\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[278,34],"class_list":{"0":"post-1465","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-news","7":"tag-abuh-ali","8":"tag-kogi"},"yoast_head":"\n
