NOAH SEELAM \/ AFP.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Nigeria\u2019s COVID-19 death toll rose to 2,701 on Wednesday after six more people battling the disease lost the fight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed this in an early-morning Facebook post on Thursday while giving an update on the outbreak of the disease in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Four hundred and thirty-seven more cases were recorded in the last 24 hours in 17 states and the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Lagos recorded the highest number of fresh infections \u2013 126 and was followed by Rivers and Kwara States where 76 and new cases were recorded respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Others are FCT \u2013 37, Edo \u2013 32, Kaduna \u2013 30, Anambra \u2013 22, Delta \u2013 22, Osun \u2013 12, Benue \u2013 seven, Abia \u2013 six, Nasarawa \u2013 six, Kano \u2013 five, Ekiti \u2013 three, Plateau \u2013 three, Bayelsa \u2013 two, Ogun \u2013 two, and Oyo \u2013 two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cToday\u2019s report includes: 126 cases reported from Lagos State are for September 28th (94) and 29th (32), 22 cases reported from Anambra State are for September 28th (12) and 29th (10), zero cases from Bauchi and Sokoto States,\u201d said the NCDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">It clarified that rather than the six recoveries erroneously reported for Jigawa State on September 24, 12 infected people recovered from the disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">This brings to 205,484 the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country while those that have been successfully treated are 193,482.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">While 9,286 cases are active in various treatment centres across the country as of 9am on Thursday, the NCDC says it has collected and tested a total of 6,040,381 samples.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A health worker wearing a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suit tests a swab sample for COVID-19 at a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[244,272,53],"class_list":{"0":"post-1439","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-news","7":"tag-covid-19","8":"tag-ncdc","9":"tag-nigeria"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
