….\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Kogi State Government has procured Nigeria\u2019s first hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber to strengthen the state\u2019s healthcare system.<\/span><\/p>\n Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu, said the equipment would reduce medical tourism.<\/span><\/p>\n He said Nigeria is now the fifth African country with the sophisticated medical equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n Audu said: \u201cThis is great news for Nigerian patients who hitherto had to travel abroad for such diagnosis and treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhoever has been following the trend of achievements in Kogi State Health Sector must have seen the purposeful move to turn the state to a choice destination for health tourism.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis was made possible by the determination of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to revamp the state\u2019s health sector and change the old narrative of a moribund sector that supervised substandard services.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The health commissioner believes the equipment can help in healing people with both internal and external life-threatening injuries as well as health complications.<\/span><\/p>\n They include air or gas embolism, brain and sinus infections, necrotizing soft tissue infections, arterial insufficiency or low blood flow in the arteries, radiation injury, especially as a result of cancer treatment, anaemia, osteomyelitis, gas gangrene, carbon monoxide poisoning, burns and skin grafts.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHBOT is becoming increasingly popular and mostly used as adjuvant therapy to conventional treatment\/management of some life-threatening conditions to minimise healing times,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, said the equipment is part of the many facilities to feed the ongoing health projects in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"….\u00a0 The Kogi State Government has procured Nigeria\u2019s first hyperbaric oxygen treatment chamber to strengthen the state\u2019s healthcare…\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[184,2],"tags":[34],"class_list":{"0":"post-1142","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-health","7":"category-news","8":"tag-kogi"},"yoast_head":"\n
