A senior lawyer in Enugu State, Barr Eli Ugwu has been shot dead.<\/p>\n
\nThe incident has thrown the entire people of Nsukka into deep agony.<\/p>\n

Daily Post reported that the legal practitioner was shot dead in Kogi State shortly after delivering ransom to kidnappers who abducted his cousin.<\/p>\n
There are, however, controversies trailing his death.<\/p>\n
Initial claims had said he was shot by the kidnappers after delivering the ransom.<\/p>\n
A Facebook user, Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi wrote on his timeline: \u201cA part of us is Gone! He was shot dead in Kogi state while trying to pay ransom for his kidnapped cousin.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe story is not clear since yesterday but this is the much we know at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, emerging reports now say Ugwu was shot dead by policemen as he was coming out of the bush, alongside his cousin upon his release by the kidnappers.<\/p>\n
A senior lawyer, who does not want his name in print told DAILY POST on Tuesday that Ugwu was shot dead by policemen after delivering ransom.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has already successfully delivered ransom and was coming out with the victim when policemen shot them.<\/p>\n
\u201cEli was shot dead but his cousin (the kidnap victim), is responding to treatment. It\u2019s a huge blow,\u201d he said fearfully.<\/p>\n
Eli, until his death, was a strong member of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Nsukka branch.<\/p>\n
