Kogi Speaker Distances Self from N15.7m Debt Owed Contractor

..

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole has on Friday distanced himself from the N15,780,920 contract sum allegedly owed by the assembly.

Recall that Ebira Reporters had reported a legal case instituted against the assembly by a company, Ce Triple Global Services Limited over failure to pay the sum after supply of television, fridge and stabiliser, among others in October 2016.

Reacting in a press statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi, the Speaker noted that the contract which was said to have been awarded under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Alfa Umar Imam has no proper documentation to show that the company truly transacted any business deal with the Assembly then.

“It is imperative to state that the Kogi State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole didn’t award such contracts as most of the renovations done on the Assembly Complex are being handled by the relevant agency of government that is saddled with such responsibilities.

“If Engr. Chris Edime is not being stingy with the truth, he would have informed the public that the crux of the matter is the inability of his firm to present the necessary documents for the said money to be paid.

“Speaker Matthew Kolawole, since he emerged as the Speaker of the Assembly has tried to resolve the issue but to no avail as the company could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that they truly have a deal with the Assembly as there were no records of who awarded the said contract, the officer that received those items into the store.

“Though the case is prejudice, the impression created by the published report makes setting the records imperative,” he said.
