A support group for the presidential ambition of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, Nigeria Youths Awareness Group, has disowned presidential campaign posters of the governor and Femi Fani-Kayode.
In the posters, they were featured as presidential candidate and running mate for the 2023 presidential poll.
But the group, in a statement by its National President, Alhaji Salihu Magaji, made available to journalists in Bauchi, said that Governor Bello neither knew nor gave approval for the printing the posters.
According to Magaji, the Kogi State governor did not have any prior knowledge of the said posters and flyers or even knew the group or the individuals behind it.
“Our attention has been drawn to posters and flyers designed as Governor Yahaya Bello campaign posters with Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, as Yahaya Bello’s Vice-President. The pictures are being circulated on social media and were also published by online medium campaigning for 2023 presidential ambition and vice-president on their behalf.
”We want to state categorically that Governor Bello has no prior knowledge of that. Neither the group nor the individuals behind the posters and flyers are known to His Excellency,” Magaji said.
He further stated that the Governor knew well that a running mate would only be selected after winning the party’s primary election and wondered why Fani-Kayode, who just joined the ruling party last week could share the presidential ticket with Governor Bello.
”His Excellency, as a responsible Governor, who is very sensitive to the plight and wellbeing of the citizens, cannot and will not support that kind of premature intentions, especially at this crucial moment.
“Everybody knows in politics there is procedure for everything: vice president are normally pick after successful primary election. But how can Femi Fani-Kayode who joins APC two days ago can have a joint ticket with respected democratic exemplary leader, Yahaya Bello, without following due procedures? It is not possible,” he asserted.
He, however, called on the governor’s supporters to be calm, focused, declaring that 2023 is in the hands of God, urging Nigerians not to be misled by anybody or group using the name of Yahaya Bello to achieve their political goals.
“We want to inform all supporters of Yahaya Bello to remain calm and focused and to understand that Governor Bello has no knowledge of the posters.
“2023 is in the hands of the Almighty God, who is indeed the benefactor of each of His own dear ones, who alone can enthrone and dethrone. We are praying to almighty Allah to give Yahaya Bello the opportunity to become next President of Nigeria,” he said.
